What Causes Pin Pricking Sensation In The Eye?

For the past week, starting intermitently but now the occurance has increased to almost persistant, I have been experiencing a pin prick sensation to the cornea. I had cataract surgery in December with no complications and have tear duct plugs. Could this be caused by dry eye? I do take antihistamines.
