What Causes Persistent Vaginal Itching?

My daughter, 21, is experiencing vaginal itching that has apparently lasted for over 2 years (she didn t tell me it was still bothering her after a yeast infection treatment all that time ago). The itching now includes pain, and there are bumps inside her vagina. Can you help me advise her? Can she treat this without seeing a doctor? Her schedule is incredibly busy and structured, and she has almost no time for a doctor visit. I know she will make time if this is evidence of something dangerous. Karla YYYY@YYYY

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Since your daughter is suffering from vaginal itching since 2 years she needs to visit ER. Let her have her pelvic examination and investigations for all STD tests done. Don't worry she will be fine but she needs medications, antibiotics, antivirals & antiparasitics. She should get treated or the infection (vulvovaginitis, vaginal warts, yeast infection, trichomoniasis, etc.) will only result in weakening of her immune system. Let her take care of her hygiene, avoid sexual intercourse if sexually active. In the meantime give her diet rich in calcium & protein, give her vitamin supplements.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K.
