What Causes Persistent Swelling From The Hips Below?

Hi Doc, I am taking care of my 90 yo aunt. We took her to her Md last Wednesday due to she has swelling to her bilateral lower extremities. Md gave her maxzide. But her swelling did not improve yet. She does not take any other medication except her thyroid supplement. I need your advise pls.

Thanks for your question on HCM

I do understand your pain and discomfort

“As” per your history is concerned please check her current TSH level. If abnormal adjust doses after consulting with her primary care physician. Second point is check following signs-

(a)shortness of breathing even at rest

(b)abdominal bloating

(c)cough while laying down

(d)chest pain as well as dizziness

If any one symptom is present admit her to your nearest hospital and do one ECG and ECHO and treatment will be as per heart.
