Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Two sides of my face are swollen by my ears. It started one morning when I woke up from sleep on 25th of last month April. They weren't painful. I will be 64 years old by the end of this month. My GP has prescribed Augmentin 500mg antibiotics, I have been taking this since the 28th of April. The swelling has not gone away and I am worried. I am diabetic, High blood pressure and high cholesterol. What do I do? I am worried. My doctor sent me to the hospital and they did some blood test and prescribed the same Augmentin. The areas of my ears are still very swollen.
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns. As per your complain it seems that swelling on both sides of face by the ears can be related to swelling of the Parotid glands which are major salivary glands and present in the area in front of the ears.
I would suggest you to consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like x ray, MRI scan, oral swab culture, salivary amylase etc can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly. Once the cause is confirmed then only treatment can be done appropriately as taking antibiotics like Augmentin if there is no bacterial infection will not resolve the condition.
Hope this information helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Thanks and regards, Dr. Honey Nandwani Arora
