What Causes Persistent Sores On Ears, Abdomen And Diaper Area?

My nephew who is 3 years old today has sores around his mouth, ears, diaper area and abdomen. He has been admitted into the hospital and a battery of tests and blood work has been done with no abnormal results. He has not run fever but wakes up screaming that his neck hurts. Under his neck , under his arms and on his shoulders he looks like he is sun burned. He cannot stand for anything to touch him. He won t even wear a diaper. His doctor is baffled. Can you help?
