What Causes Persistent Redness, Swelling And Burning Sensation In The Eyes?
Hello. Debating on seeing optometrist or ophthalmologist or PCP. Since 12/25/16 I have one eye super red, eyelid swollen. Other eye a little red. Eyes feel like they want to tear up but don t. Wake up and they are somewhat glued shut. Went to a nurse practitioner last evening. She thought it was pink eye. She gave RX to treat pink eye. Have administered 2 drops each eye 5x now and no relief. Beginning to wonder if something else? Also eyes are cloudy. I m daughter of patient. Mother is 82, she has these symptoms. Thx for your time.
Hello! I have been through your question. Related your concern I think this is conjunctivitis probably bacterial. You should know that conjunctivitis could be caused by viral infections, bacterial infections and allergic reaction. When the conjunctivitis is bacterial usually has a thick yellow or green discharge and when has thin, clear drainage from the eye itching, burning, or feeling like there's sand in the eye often is a viral infection or an allergic reaction. What I suggest for your mother is to meet an ophthalmologist and to define better the diagnosis and to start eye drops (tobradex drops) or ointments and if need it oral antibiotic. I wish your mother a quick recovery. I hope my answer help you.
