What Causes Persistent Redness In The Eyes?

my eyes have been blood shot for about 8 weeks but not itchy or painful. optometrist said nothing shows from exam and gave moisturizing drops that had no impact. pharmacist suggested allergies and I just completed two weeks of OTC zyrtec and allergy eyes drops with no improvement, except when I traveled out of state for a few days (away from FL). if it is allergies, what else can I do? is there anything else I should be concerned about?
