What Causes Persistent Pain In Right Buttocks And Shoulder?

for over 8 weeks, ive been troubled with right buttock pain with spasm. I had a deep bronchitis at that time as well, and a stiff right shoulder. I walk with a cane in my right hand so this was particuallyi painful. I needed help with bath, getting up off the toilet stool, sitting up in bed. visited my doctor 3 times and was seen in urgent care. since then, my left ribs are so painful it hurts to breath. the pain from that has radiated to my lower back and bottom of the shoulder blades in the back. what to do?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Persistent pain in the right buttock is commonly due to spasm of the pyriformis muscle that causes buttock pain. It may affect the sciatic nerve causing pain, numbness and tingling in the legs as well. Stretch exercise, massage under a physiotherapist may help as it improves the strength and flexibility of the pyriformis. However, you are suggested to get clinically examined by a GP. Your treating doctor may recommend NCV tests and some imaging tests like CT / MRI so that any other factor causing you discomfort can be detected.

The treating doctor may treat you with corticosteroid injections to reduce discomfort and may give transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulator (TENS) treatment for relief. Pain relieving medications may help. Cold / warm compression reduces swelling and pain.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
