What Causes Persistent Pain In Knee Along With Swelling Above The Knee?

I have knee pain for over 3 months with a rash and swelling of the muscle above the knee. What could this be? Rash began horribly itchy, but is now more individual pustules rather like a child hood disease. Knee continues to be stiff and swollen. I am allergic to cortisone, so refused a shot.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

* As per my clinical experience, the persistent pain in knee with swelling above the knee and skin rashes do indicate underlying auto immune disorder of some sort most likely.

* The osteoarthritis as well as rheumatoid arthritis are both possibly related to extra articular manifestations to more or less extent.

* However, additional work up with presence of uveitis, tendonitis, GI specific IBS or else has to be evaluated for the confirmatory guidelines and manage accordingly.

If you have any of the reports available with you, kindly share them with me as a PDF attachment during follow up discussion, so that better guidance can be provided from this platform.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel
