What Causes Persistent Pain And Swelling Post A Knee Replacement Surgery?

I fell on my right knee and burst the bursa. My orthopedist x-rayed the knee and found arthritis in the joint and recommended knee replacement surgery. I am now 2 months post op and still have a lot of pain and swelling. Could this be due to the damage to the bursa? He said that it took several minutes during surgery to get the excess fluid out of my thigh. I seem to be having a very rough time in rehab and dread going because I have severe pain from one session to the next. Please help me understand.
