Hello,

You are 50 years of age and are experiencing heavy bleeding during your periods. You are in perimenopausal phase, it is a phase of physiological changes and is normal. You may experience irregular periods, scanty periods or just spotting. Sometimes, you may have heavy bleeding. It is due to hormonal changes. However, pathology like polyp, cysts, fibroids or endometriosis may also cause heavy bleeding.

You are suggested to get clinically examined by a gynecologist, get blood tests, ultrasound of the uterus, imaging tests done to detect the pathology causing you discomfort. You will be treated accordingly (given conservative treatment or recommended surgery). In the meantime, you should take food rich in iron, calcium and protein. Stay well hydrated. Avoid addictions if any. Avoid stressful lifestyle. Stay active.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
