What Causes Persistent Dry Cough Despite Taking Asthalin In A Toddler?

I have a kid of 3 years. she frequently suffers from dry cough. sometimes wet cough. this is happening from last 8 months. her cough toggles between dry and wet. at this moment she is suffering from dry cough. my doctor has given her asthalin syrup and some antibiotic. antibiotic course is over. now she is taking asthalin and still suffering from dry cough. what is the main reason of her coughing.

Hi there,

8 months of coughing sounds like allergies and not asthma or an infection. The antibiotics sound like they were unnecessary and didn't help at all. I would guess that her symptoms are due to allergies. Have you tried over the counter benadryl? I'd see if this helps. If this does help, you can probably be assured that her symptoms are due to allergies.

If this turns out to be the case, I'd have her see an allergist, or figure out what she's being exposed to that is making her cough. Smoking is a common cause that causes children to cough, and I'm surprised at the number of parents that can't put this together. Hopefully, this isn't the case here.

I hope I have answered your questions. Please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions or if you feel I haven't addressed your question adequately.
