What Causes Persistent Depression While On Effexor?

i took Effexor successfully for over a year then I started experiencing strange detatchment from reality feelings and stopped taking it. aafter 7-8 months my depression symptoms seemed to come back but anything my Dr. tries causes the same reaction. I get very agitated and anxious and get a burning/itching sensation in my arms and neck and chest. This happens after only one dose. It occurs with Cymbalta, Zoloft, Buspirone and even SAM-e. I also take .75-1.5 mg Xanax a day. Why cant I restart an SNRI, i never had this happen the first time? Thank you, Robert Williams

Hello thanks for asking from HCM

I can understand your concern. Its common with SSRI or SNRI drugs to cause increased restlessness, strange feeling etc symptoms especially for first few days of starting the drug. To avoid such symptoms drug should be started at low dose and doses should be increased gradually. In most cases symptoms go in about a week.

So you can start the SNRI again and most likely nothing will happen. Mild restlessness, worsening of symptoms will reduce in about a week.
