What Causes Persistent Clogged Nose Leading To Breathing From The Mouth?

Hi, so I have been a mouth breather for all my life . At night my nose is constantly clogged and I sleep with my mouth open which causes me to snore. It is hard to breath out of one nostril at a time . During the day my nose is some times not clogged. My main questions is could my nose be deviated ?

Hello,

You had explained in a very simple way. Mouth breathing is generally not considered as an abnormal thing. Some healthy individuals also take breath by nose and mouth.

Clogged nose occurs by accumulation of excess mucus (secreted by sinuses) in the passages of nostrils. Excess mucus is secreted when there is inflammation of sinuses. Inflammation of sinuses occurs repeatedly in some people as a result of sensitive nasal and paranasal sinuses.

So, by observing your complaints carefully, there is no possibility of any nasal deviation. It is better to go for a CT scan by which we can completely eliminate the possibility of nasal septum deviation.

Mouth breathing patients should be very careful as they are more prone for infections. So, always maintain hygienic bedroom. Snoring, dry mouth, hoarseness are minor effects. If breathing is very difficult, better to use nasal decongestants and antihistamines.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
