What Causes Persistent Chest Pain In Spite Of All Cardiac Tests Being Negative?
I am a 42 yr old male in relatively good shape. Run 2-3 miles three times a week. For the last 6-7 years I have a chest pain that has gotten progressively worse. The pain lasts for anywhere from 5-7 days then goes away. I used to get this pain every 6 months or so but now it's almost every three months. Had every test in the book done, ekg-stress test-cardiac cath & all were negative. The pain is very intense & keeps me awake at night. I don't know what elses to do. Very depressed!
Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic. I can understand your concern. No need to worry for heart diseases because your extensive cardiac work up is normal. Sometimes bronchitis can cause similar kind of periodic chest pain. So get done PFT (Pulmonary Function Test) to rule out bronchitis. If PFT is also normal then possibility of depression related chest pain is more. So consult psychiatrist and get done counselling sessions. Try to identify stressor in your life and start working on its solution. You may need anti depressant and other supportive drugs. Counselling plays very important role in control of depression along with drugs. Don't worry, you will be alright. Avoid stress and tension, be relax and calm. Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
