Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi I have noticed pain in my back lately which is very persistent and doesn t seem to be eased with anything, I have also noticed a dent right on my spine about 3/4 of the way down, kind of like a dimple but deep and can be felt. I am rather slight and my spin is easily felt but where the dent is I can also feel a dip in spine. My father has spinal stenosis, could I be following in his footsteps?
Spinal stenosis is one cause for backache. However there are any other causes for backaches which are more common. Spinal stenosis generally produces pain which occur with walking and is for long times. It is not a familial disease most of the times so you are not getting it from your parents.
So to say it may be spinal stenosis but other things are more common like muscle spasm or prolapse disk. I would advise you should do some physiotherapy and heat application. If things don't get improved then you can see your doctor.
MRI is needed to know exactly but most of the backaches are not serous. If the pain is very severe or there is numbness in your feet or urinary problems then urgently see your doctor.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mahboob Ur Rahman,
