Hi Dr Andrew Rynne, I passed anxiety panic attacks in March and since then I have been on medication and taking Mirtazapine and Quotiapine, but still my mode isn t good. If I don t take the medications, I would get the severe anxiety panic attacks, so what should I do? Please kindly let me know. Thank you, Jamakzai

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello. You may be suffering from anxiety from quite a long time. It requires both medication as well as counselling by a psychologist. First of all you need to be very regular in taking your prescribed medications for whatever duration the psychiatrist will suggest. Secondly you need to consult a good clinical psychologist. Anxiety is quite common in this material world. No one is free from anxiety. Some of the tips you can follow- 1. Keep yourself busy. An idle mind is a Devils workshop. A busy mind will not have much to think of any other problems. 2. Develop some good hobby. Music, sports, reading books, novels etc. 3. do regular physical exercise. Exercise produces endorphins in the body and helps us to be active. Go for a morning walk. Be with the nature. 4. Be social. Spend more time with family and friends. 5. Avoid bad habits like smoking and alcohol. 6. Be spiritual. Read spiritual books. 7. Learn meditation techniques and practice regularly. 8. Develop these habits for 21 days. It is said that anything you practice for 21 days becomes a habit. All the best
