What Causes Palpitations, Headache After Taking Vitamin B12 Supplements?

Dear sir; Before 3 months I was deficient in vitamins. my vitamin b12 was 97 pg/ml and vitamin d3 was 9 ml/ml. But after taking vitamins tablets b12 become 497pg/ml. I am also taking beta blocker metoprolol 25 mg and ezeepam 10 mg since 2 months but symptoms palpitations, headache are not reduced. I have done CT Brain, PET SCAN whole body, 2D ECHO, hormones tests all r normal. Only holter monitoring shows some events of sinus tachycardia. Plese sir tell me what can i do for relief from it. Are these symptoms cause of vitamin b12 deficiency?

Hi,

Palpitations are not one of the side effects of B12 medication, but it can actually be a sign of B12 deficiency. However, the B12 levels provided by you are within normal limit. I suspect your palpitations might be from the heart, you did mention that ECG revealed a sinus tachycardia -which is a fast heart rate, >100 beats per minute. Metoprolol on the other hand can help with the palpitations.

I see you are on a low dose, you might want to discuss with your family physician about increasing the dose of this to help with the sinus tachycardia and indeed the palpitations. I must warn you though one of the side effects of metoprolol is a headache, if this is not an acceptable side effect then you family physician might want to recommend other suitable medication for the palpitations instead of metoprolol.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
