What Causes Palpitations After Physical Exertion?

Hi, I was playing basketball for about an hour and twenty minutes. Everything was fine until finished and got into my car. When I sat down my heart started beating really fast and I thought I was having a heart attack. That lasted for about 1minute of a minute and a half.

Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
By your history and description, you really don't need to worry.
Usually during excercise period there is a vagal feedback which maintains BP and sugar. However, even professional athletes experience sudden rise in BP, palpitations and even hypoglycemia. The usual cause is dehydration.
It is advisable that next time you keep yourself well hydrated during such physically challenging tasks. Hydration means not only water but also electrolytes. Take special caution not to miss a meal.
Get your BP checked after 24 hrs of strenuous activity. Not before that.

Take care,
Regards
