What Causes Painfully Swollen Legs Post Placement Of Rod For The Broken Femur?
My father-in-law fell and fractured his femur 3 weeks ago. Had surgery and Rod and screws to repair it. Home now for a week after rehab. The past 3 days both legs are very swollen, painful and oozing yellow fluid. It is like a faucet on his legs. Is this serious? I think we should call doctor or ER. Also his face seems puffy too. Nurse said he should just elevate his legs more duting the day. They have a private nurse at night to help out. Thank you!
I understand your concern. I am sorry for the fractured femur your father had experienced 3 weeks ago.
The swollen legs, with painful and oozing yellow fluid is suggestive of blockage of blood and lymph circulation in his legs. As this has been going on for 3 days now with no improvement, I highly recommend to call his doctor as soon as possible.
If cannot manage an emergency appointment with him, send to ER.
Keep his legs well elevated until you see his doctor. Wish fast recovery.
