Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Painful Throbbing Sensation On The Left Side Of The Head?
I have a throbbing on the left posterior side of my head, towards the nape. It started last night around 7 pm. I took 400 mg ibuprofen hoping for relief at 2:30 am. Seemed to subside in the morning 7-10 am. But has since returned. This time it has traveled higher up above my ear, still posterior. I took another same dose of ibuprofen at 11:45 am. No change. It feels good to put ice pack on it, but it is a debilitating throbbing. Constant, every few seconds. It s a level 8 on pain scale when it throbs.
I would advise you to take ibuprofen together with 1 gr of paracetamol at the same time to help alleviate the headache. You may continue to use cold packs if you feel they are helpful, some patients are better with hot packs though. So, it might be good for you to try and find if one helps you better than the other.
If your pain is not better with this treatment, it might be good to see a doctor.
I hope this answers your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
