What Causes Painful Swollen Feet And Ankles After Taking Lasix And Gabapentin?

Just came across your site looking for answers to painful situation. Was to my primary Dr a few days ago...prescribed Lasix and Gabapentin and come back in 6 weeks. But am having recurrence of VERY painful swollen feet and ankles that I cannot endure for 6 weeks. We have never put a cause to this. Skin tight, shiny, feels like may burst. Toes are very patriotic..sometimes blue, sometimes red, sometimes white. Skin sometimes red and hot in one area of leg, but with an almost dividing line where it switches to white. Can feel cold at times. Variety of pain includes burning, stabbing, like something biting and sometimes feels like liquid running down inside my legs. Pain typical, I understand, of Peripheral Neuropathy, but don t think the swelling is related to that. (Members of my PN Support group looked at my legs and said...that is NOT related to your PN..get to a Dr. (That appointment took 20 days) Tonight there is actually a clear liquid seeping out through the skin on my lower left leg. (Earlier this eve it was bloody, but I had scratched at the white flakiness that appeared on the glossy skin recently.) Also, the skin across the top of my ankle joints has become hard. kinda in ridges, and makes it almost impossible to point my toes downward or upward. I ended up in hospital with all this about a year ago,, had the deep vein thrombsis test, etc. Nothing definite ever decided. I just had the Arterial Exam of both lower extremities. Results show circulation OK. Guess I am out of space?

Treatments for swollen ankles and swollen feet depend on the particular cause, but anti-inflammatory medications are often used to manage the pain .Most people who spend time standing or sitting are at risk for feet and ankle swelling.
Swelling symptoms depend on the underlying cause so symptoms may range from a painless increase in foot and ankle diameter (size) to skin changes of color, texture changes that may be localized to one or both or ankles; other symptoms may include warm skin and ulceration with pus drainage
Almost all feet and ankle swelling is diagnosed by clinical observation and physical examination; tests are ordered to diagnose underlying causes
Treatment of swollen feet and ankles is dependent on diagnosing the underlying cause(s); some people require no treatment while others with underlying cause(s) may require several different treatments.
But you did not mention that why are you taking lasix, If you are taking this for congestiive cardiac failure, this is fine as pedal edema is typical symptom of congestive cardiac failure and gabapentin is used as muscle relaxant.
Please do not sit or stand for prolong time as this would increase dependent swelling. Just try to walk and if you are over weight, then try to cut down your weight and reduce salt intake.
I think that this would help.
