Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
hello. my right middle toe keeps spontaneously sweeling up with a great deal of pain. it usually lasts 3-4 days nd happens about once a month. it got so bad the last time I went to the Dr and was prescribed a antibiotic. on day 8 of taking my antibiotic the toe next to my pinky toe on the left foot started to swell. Each toe also has a little nodule on ea toe. But what is most concerning is I have a 20 month old daughter that I still night time breast ffed and her middle toe on her right foot is starting to ssell p she doesn t seem to be in any pain from it but since her toe has gotten swollen she has been more cranky....please help
This is one of those times where I can have only a general discussion. Periodic swelling is (almost) never due to infection and the antibiotic effect is generally by luck.
There is basically nothing that is hereditary to cause swelling in one toe. Gout is quite rare in women of breastfeeding age, but otherwise is a cause of joint swelling in a toe that comes and goes and looks like an infection.
Periodic trauma to a toe, which can be quite common with high heels is probably the most common cause of toe swelling BUT generally, people know what happened.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
