What Causes Painful Lump Near Wrist, Swelling And Numbness In Left Thumb?

On April 15, I raked the lawn for 9 hours (from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. with meal breaks). There was swelling the next day. Now the swelling is down. My left hand thumb where it meets the wrist has a painful bump which the tendon slides over. The tendon is sore. The pain travels through the elbow. The shoulder is just sore. I have iced the entire arm today every 2 hours for 8 minutes and it feels better. There is a tingling sensation in the thumb over that out side tendon. The outside of the thumb is numb. I am a pianist. Should I not play the piano at all or may I play lighter slower repertoire? No g minor Ballades today! Thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I think it can be a swollen lymph node. I think you should not worry about it. It isn't so much important since it is small and not painful.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Olgeta Xhufka, General & Family Physician
