What Causes Painful Lump Above The Elbow?

I just found a lump under the skin on the inside of my left arm right above the elbow. I noticed the lump when I rubbed my arm and felt a sharp deep pain like a deep bruise. The lump feels hard and I do not see any discoloration of the skin although it may be a little swollen. What can cause such a lump that seemingly came out of nowhere?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello. It seems you have an enlarged epitrochlear lymph node. This lymph node may be enlarged when you have minor infections/ injuries to your ring and little fingers. Other conditions which may mimic this are bursitis or a lipoma. In bursitis you would have pain on moving your elbow joint while in lipoma you would not have any symptoms at all - just a lump! Since you experience some pain on deep pressing, I would go with an enlarged lymph node. Hope this helps.

Dr Geeta
