What Causes Painful Hernia?

I have a very large hernia. About 40 years ago I had a kidney stone removed. Then had a hernia from that. Was operated on again. Then I got it again and I said forget it. Every dr I asked about it said if it s not bothering u forget it. Well now it s hurting. I m 84 and very frightened to be operated on at my age. But my hernia looks like a basketball and very uncomfortable what r my chances?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As first-line management, you can take analgesics like paracetamol or aceclofenac for pain relief.

Consult a general surgeon and get evaluated. You can opt for laparoscopic hernia repair as it has got very low chances for recurrence.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
