What Causes Painful Cramps In The Thigh While Treating Parathyroid Cancer?

I have been treated for parathyroid cancer - surgery + 2 months radiation and take 1 tab 0.1mg levothyroxine daily (155lbs). In recent months I suffer very painful calf/ thigh cramps at night in bed and now bad leg pain including one foot locked at a right angle.I have to leap out of bed and try to walk the cramps and pain off. This happens 4 or 5 times during night. It seems to be getting worse. Local doc has told me to take magnesium tabs which don t seem to help at all! ????

Possible causes of your symptoms may include metabolic/ionic imbalances like low calcium, low magnesium, low potassium, etc., side effects of Levothyroxine, kidney diseases and others.

I will advise you see your doctor for a serum electrolyte test, kidney function test, thyroid function test. In the meantime, I will advise you do the following:
• Rest well
• Take enough water
• Pain drug like Aceclofenac
• A myorelaxant like Miorel
