What Causes Pain On The Top Of Head?

Hey Dr. I just ran about a mile and after I started experiencing a sharp pain on the top of my head on the right side about 4 inches above my ear. Its gone away now that I am fully rested but while my body was cooling down it was painful. What do you think could cause this?

Hi,

I cannot say in your particular case. The location and movement of a pain gives clues as to what is going on. Running up the back of the head on one side is typical for a pinched nerve at the top of the spine. At the temple is where the temporal artery is at. Small areas with increased sensitivity, electrical or burning properties would be from a small nerve.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
