What Causes Pain On The Base Of The Skull While Suffering From Hypertension?

My blood pressure fluctuates...it s been as high as 157/122 and as normal as 120/85. With no apparent cause. I take HCTZ 40mgs daily and have Lisinopril 2.5mgs to take if it spikes. What would cause this huge variation? When it goes up I get an awful headache at the base of my skull. I am having some neck discomfort from a disc problem and I started using a CPAP machine a month ago. I am about 20lbs heavier than I should be, but other than that they tell me I am healthy. I am 52, 5 10 and 220 lbs.

Poor handling of HCTZ

Detailed Answer:
Welcome to healthcaremagic.com and myself Dr. Oscar Alberto Martinez would be answering your questions..

Yes you are on right treatment, but its no doing enough, ill suggest go to your doctor for evaluation and he add another Antihypertensive drug to lower the blood pressure and avoid damages that high pressure has(blindness, stroke, kidney injure and CVD) if we do not correct this blood pressures spikes which are more common and danger in the morning.

Regards.
