What Causes Pain On Right Carotid Artery?

I feel pain when I lightly press on my right carotid artery. I was also recently diagnosed with gestational diabetes in my 26th week of pregnancy. I've heard the two (gest diab. and carotid artery issues) could be related. Any thoughts? Should I see my OB/GYN or a cardio doctor?

Hi, Carotid artery problems are related to blockage or stenosis. They are almost never painful and the symptoms of Carotid disease are transient weakness in some part of the body or sudden onset blindness or fainting attacks. It can be related to Gestational Diabetes. But the only way to know whether there is Carotid disease is by imaging investigations like Color Doppler, CT scan or an MRI. So, if you feel that you have any of the above symptoms and you require to rule out the disease, then you should get an appointment with your GP who can advice a Color Doppler of the Carotid arteries. This should clearly tell whether there is any problem or not.
