What Causes Pain In Tonsils Spreading To Ear And Jaw?

For about three days now I have had some pretty bad pain in my right tonsil. Both of my tonsils are always large so I really cant tell if there is any swelling but I am guessing that there is because it feels like it is about to explode. The pain has now spread to my ear, jaw, roof of mouth, and down my neck and has gone from moderate pain to pretty intense. I am trying to avoid going to a doctor because I have no insurance so I am wondering if this sounds like an infection or something that will pass.

Hi,
Welcome to healthcare magic.
I had gone through your question.
I can understand your concern.

Yes, this could be tonsilar infection. The pain in the ear is referred pain from throat.

I recommend the following.

1) A course of antibiotics.
2) Analgesic like tablet paracetamol for pain.
3) Salt water gargling. Add a pinch of salt to a glass of warm water.
4) Chronic enlargement of tonsils need surgical intervention. Consult an ENT doctor for the same.

You will be fine.

Hope I have answered your question. If you have any questions, I am happy to help.

Wish you a good health and speedy recovery.
