Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
for two days now I have been feeling this needles-like stomach pain but more like in the upper area. If I touch my belly it will hurt a little. Pain is concentrated more in the are of the stomach right under the sternum. I took Tums and have been drinking ginger ale etc. which relieves it temporarily but reality is the pain is still there.
The symptoms mentioned in your case history denotes some mild gastritis. If not for a long time, I generally advise such patients to avoid spicy and salty foods, painkiller, soft drinks and judicious use of alcohol and smoking also worsens. Above all, you also need to take an over the counter antacid for some time. Few people may need a short course of acid-suppressing drugs. But it's term comes only if antacid doesn't work. If all treatment fails or anything alarming, like food sticking in the throat, severe vomiting or black stools, then it's time to see your gastroenterologist. But that's very least likely.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Mahboob Ur Rahman
