What Causes Pain In The Thumb While Suffering From Diabetes?

I am a 35-year diabetic who is experiencing thumb nerve pain after a 3-month battle with a foot wound that would not heal that required that I be off my foot for that time. It is much better now, and I am hoping to become active again soon. I have neuropathy and not well-controlled diabetes. I am always working on getting better control of my diabetes. How can I treat the thumb nerve pain now? It is driving me crazy and interfering with my sleep at night.

Hi,

Diabetes is associated with neuropathy which can give disabling pain. I can understand your problem.

While good glycemic control is necessary for the pain, there are a number of drugs that may be used for the pain. These include Gabapentin, Duloxetine, Carbamazepine and a few more. Talk to your doctor to get a prescription.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
