What Causes Pain In The Right Side Of The Right Foot?

The right side of my right foot, just below the little toe, where there is a natural lump or calloused area, suddenly became painful today, (feels like there is a rock under the skin), and now there is a deep blue bruise on the middle of the bottom of the foot, and the bruise wraps around to the front, across the lump area and below the little toe and the next bigger toe. I can hardly stand on it. I ve not been injured nor have I fallen nor wore tight or strange footwear.

Hope you do not have Diabetes, since the problem you have should be seriously taken if you do have diabetes. These are portals of bacterial entry, which can cause serious infection due to the immunocompramised state in Diabetes. What you have developed is an hematoma under the callus. at the base of the 5th toe, right foot. The callus should be scrapped by an expert to let out the blood collection. After the callus scrapping, there would be an ulcer, which you should keep it clean, daily dress it with Neosporin or Mupirocin ointment. If during callus scrapping, the hematoma looks infected with purulent fluid, you would have to take a course of antibiotics. In such a case please consult a Podiatric surgeon for the appropriate antibiotic. Callus occur due to high pressure point at the region, and the only way to heal the callus ulcer and once it has healed, to prevent reformation, is to always use footwear with soft, pressure distributing insoles. Materials like E.V.A., Silicon, Platazote, Poron are good. In fact there are institutes that custom make footwear with these materials. Also please keep the skin of your feet soft by using a skin softner. The most cost effective is Vaseline, which may applied on the dorsal and plantar aspect of the feet twice a day.
