What Causes Pain In The Left Upper Arm Muscles?

I am experiencing pain in my left upper arm muscle - cannot use adductor muscles to raise arm laterally without lots of pain. Was in my right arm a few months ago. Dr. did xray - said probably arthritis but it has move to left arm. I am left handed. Play sports left handed. 67 years old. Fairly good health. Sometimes pain also projects inward to clavicle and neck. I know it s not arthritis as it doesn t move around. I just want to know what to say to my doc.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Pain in the upper left arm can be due to bursitis, pinched nerve, injury or sprain, cervical spondylitis or arthritis. But pain in the left arm is a clear indication of some developing coronary artery disease.

Other symptoms can be shortening of breath, unusual discomfort in the neck or jaw as the disease advances. Avoid oily spicy food, take berries, fruits & veggies, do regular exercises, take adequate rest & avoid stress & anxiety.

Visit ER, get investigations, CBC, Urinalysis, Lipid function tests, ECG, Echocardiography, X-ray, CT & MRI done to rule out the developing pathology if any. Get treated at the earliest.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
