Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My left thumb has been sore for past 2 plus weeks. Pain is relatively the same level as it was 2 weeks ago. Pain is located at the inner most, first joint of the thumb on the palm side. I do not recall any injury to it, but it is sore to move and really sore to touch. I realize not much to go on buttttt, my deductible is sooooo darn high I am trying to gut this out but thought after 2 plus weeks there would be some change for the better. thanks James
Very likely you are having De QuervainTendinitis which is an inflammation of the tendon that moves the big toe. It happens generally from repetitive movements and not necessarily from trauma.
To help with it you will need some ibuprofen and paracetamol and some rest of the hand, avoiding the movements that make the pain worse. If no improvement in 1 week you may need to see a doctor as other treatments like splints or local steroid injection can be of benefit.
I hope I have answered to your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Kind regards,
Antoneta Zotaj General & Family Physician
