My father is 73, hx. of type 2 DM, mild COPD, mild hypertension. He has been active, healthy and high functioning until mid-January. He developed a severe cough with frequent sputum production and since mid January has had spontaneous, intermittent episodes of pain to his extremities (groin/hip first the left and then the right, left shoulder, left hand, left forearm, left foot, followed by the right). Sometimes he has significant redness and swelling to the area within 24-48 hours after the pain. He has had chronic lowgrade fevers since mid January. He has had 2 chest rays that are essentially negative, and unremarkable CBC, CMP results. He did have a mildly elevated uric acid level in January. Blood pressure and blood sugars have been WNL. He currently has bilateral lower extremity weakness that prevents him from being able to bear weight. He was seen at an ER last week, given 300mg Clindamycin 300mg Q6H. Continues to have increased weakness and pain. Any thoughts?
