What Causes Pain In The Gums After A Dental Procedure?

I have extreme jaw/tooth/gum pain following a routine teeth cleaning. The whole side of my face seems to be affected--have been taking tyenol, etc. for 5 days with not much relief...my Dentist prescribed predisone today for relief . do you agree with this. something had to be done!

Hi.
Thanks for the query..

Pain in gums after routine dental cleaning is not normal..
Pain can be due to any deeply decayed tooth that must have acted up post cleaning..
The pain can radiate to the entire jaw on the same side..
You should consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and an x ray should be done..
Well, Taking Prednisone alone without proper diagnosis is not a good idea, so it is better to get the cause ruled out..
For now you can take anti inflammatory painkillers like Advil or Aleve and in case if infection is suspected antibiotics like Amoxicillin can also be advised..

Hope this helps..

Regards.
