What Causes Pain In The Gallbladder Area After Cholecystectomy?
had gallbladder removed 2004. two months ago. experiencing crazy non stop pain in that area. CT scan of pelvic area..fine...blood checked...fine..chest xray...fine. Can t figure it out. get s worse if I run to catch a bus or walk long hours. I m dying to work out and this has stopped me. Inflamed as well. Mystery.
It looks like PCS, Postcholecystectomy syndrome. It commonly occurs due to some pathology in the biliary system(retained calculi, tumors, sphincter of Oddi dysfunction) or due to some non-biliary cause eg, gastritis, diarrhea. You may experience symptoms due to developing pancreatitis or gastresophageal ulcer or IBS.
You are suggested to get re-examined by your surgeon & get a follow-up treatment done. You may have to go through some blood workouts or investigations like MRCP/ERCP, USG of the right upper quadrant, etc.
Your treatment will depend upon the severity of your pathology detected. In the meantime, you can take antacids & PPI's to get relieved.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
