Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Pain In The Calf After A Knee Replacement Surgery?
I had total knee replacement 4 months ago. Approx. 1 month ago I started to have a loud snapping noise in the top part of my calf. My therapist recently noticed where it was coming from. He says that is my Gastroc tendon which is catching on something. Should I be contacting my surgeon regarding this or can physio clear up this issue.
I understand you are concerned about some snapping in your upper calf. The gastrocnemius tendon would be in that area and your therapist idea is reasonable. It may be that the tendon is irritated or strained.
Unless there is severe pain or weakness in that leg, I would recommend letting your physical therapist treat it. Only if it persisted for several weeks would I think you would need to see your surgeon about it.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Aaron Branch, General & Family Physician
