What Causes Pain In Right Side Rib Area In A Child?

My 6 year old daughter was with her dad over the weekend and when she came home today, she has been complaining of pain in her right side/rib area. She also said it hurts when she tries to take a deep breath...she said she didnt do anything to hurt herself, it just started hurting when she woke up saturday. Theres no bruising but her right side appears to be a little swollen compared to her left. Shes already asleep but I dont know whether to take her to the ER or just wait to take her to her dr tom.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms of your daughter seem to be related to a strained muscle. I suggest using anti inflammatory medications such as Tylenol for the pain. I also suggest using warm compresses for local application.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
