What Causes Pain In Neck Radiating Towards Head And Spine?

My daughter is away at school and complaining about a neck ache, that radiates to her head and down her spine. She is a body builder and works out with heavy weights at the gym. The neck symptoms have only started a few days ago, and someone on her campus has the Mumps. Should see try to see the school medical staff or go to an urgent care off campus with our insurance?

dear friend
Mumps does not give the kind of ache what your daughter is experiencing.
her issue seems more related to the muscles and may be a spasm of neck and shoulder muscles due to the weight training.
there may have been a jerk/stretch/overstretch while lifting the weight or a imbalance.
she should try see the school medical staff and see if a painkiller with muscle relaxent and a few days of rest with hot/cold pack fomentation works. if it still persists it will need investigation
