What Causes Pain In Hip And Calf?

Hello, About two and a half months ago I woke up with right hip pain. It is always present now but gets better and gets worse. It causes me to limp which I never have before. it doesn t not seem to be aggravated by exercise. A few weeks into it I began to have pain going down my right calf on the front of the leg. No pain along the thigh. I feel they are related. The pain has kept me awake in the lower leg at night while laying in bed. My hip hurts to sit ie in the lotus position. It does not want to release and let my leg settle closer to the floor as you would normally. That outward angle is the ROM that is impaired. My knee does not hurt. I am wondering what it could be. so far neither chiro or physio has helped.

Hi,

1. Consult an orthopedic surgeon regarding hip discomfort since it could be because of hip osteoarthritis, AVN [avascular necrosis], DVT [deep vein thrombosis], PVD [peripheral vascular disorder], nerve irritation [sciatica] or simply because of cramps in calf [due to diabetes, calcium or salt deficiency], who might ask for investigations like Hb%, WBC, ESR, C- reactive protein, RA test, and X-Ray Hip.

PS. The symptoms have to be carefully assessed by your doctor to ensure that whether it requires immediate medical attention or long-term therapy since pain could be due to a problem with the circulatory/lymphatic system or with the kidneys, and along with medicines continued physical therapy could be advised.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
