What Causes Pain From The Buttocks To The Knees?

I am taking atorvastin (40mg/day). To maintain lower colesteral. This past year I have the sensation of going lame in my left leg. Never fallen yet, but just aches in the left buttocks, above the keft knee, and the front of left ankle. Have seen a chiropractor in spring for 4 months, no relief. Saw family , June,Dr. thought maybe bursitis. I took pregnizone 1 week and symptoms just about dissapeared, until August. Symtoms were slightly worst. Took pregnizone again for 1 week. No relief this time. So after talking to neighbor with kinda similar problems, he stopped taking his statin, for a few weeks, and he feels so much better. So I am wondering if anything severly harmful can happen if I stop mine for three weeks to see what happens? I have a scheduled semi annual visit with my family Dr Dec 20th. Thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
You have been under treatment for high cholesterol. Have you checked your glucose level??
Diabetes might cause nerve damage which may less to such pain. Stop taking Steroids.
Also you might have some disc problems in Lumbar Vertebra. You must take CT LS SPINE, and consult An orthopedic surgeon. Best advice, avoid taking Steroids for pain, and continue Statins.
