What Causes Pain Behind The Knee After Walking?

I AM A 66YR OLD FEMALE. I WALK 2-3 MILES 3 TIMES A WEEK. I RECENTLY STARTED EXPERIENCING PAIN BEHIND MY KNEE. I DO NOT HAVE A HX OF KNEE INJURIES OR KNEE PROBLEMS. THERE IS NO VISIBLE SWELLING & NO PRESSURE POINTS THAT HURT. WHEN I BEND MY KNEE IS WHEN I FEEL THE PAIN IN THE BACK OF THE JOINT.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You have a history of pain behind the knees. Commonly it is caused due to obesity, lack of exercise, sedentary lifestyle. Medical conditions that may cause it are, Osteoarthritis, RA, ligament/tendon/meniscus tear or injury, Baker's cyst, etc.

You are suggested to get clinically assessed by a GP. Get blood tests, X-Rays, CT, MRI, USG done to detect any swelling, fluid, lump around the knee.

Your treatment will depend on the pathology detected. You will be treated with medicines(NSAIDS /corticosteroid injections), physical therapy, exercise, wearing knee braces & surgery.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Nupur K, General & Family Physician
