Urologist 's  Response
Hi,
Your symptoms are suggestive of either urethritis (infection in the tube from bladder to exterior) or prostatitis (the gland just below bladder). I hope your physician did a digital rectal examination (to feel the prostate). Did you have pain while he felt the prostate (if it was performed)? Pain while examining the prostate is suggestive of infection in prostate. If it is a prostatic infection you need to take appropriate antibiotics for 4 to 6 weeks after consulting a Urologist.
You need to get a culture and sensitivity of pus (or urine) to decide on the appropriate antibiotics. It is important to check your kidneys, bladder and prostate with ultrasonography to rule our any obstruction, stone or other localized infections.
Please let me know if you have any further queries (along with your age and any other medical conditions you may have).
Wish you a speedy recovery,
Dr. Raguram.
