What Causes Pain And Tingling Sensation In The Toes?

Hi there, I have a constant bruising sensation on my number two toe pad. It looks swollen, discolored and shriveled around the edges of the pad. It can tingle and sometimes have sharp pain. This is on my left foot which is wider than my right. Walking, tennis and other exercise can seem to aggravate it. I don t know if it is the shoe box size or what? Also is effected when wearing flip flops. Don t know if it is a shoe issue or some other underlying health issue. I am very active physically, eat a great diet but do probably consume too much wine. It would have helped more if you would have mentioned your age.
Shrunken,discoloured and swollen toe pad with pain can be because of dry gangrene caused due to peripheral vascular disease or neuroloical disease due to alcohol abuse.
The other less likely possibility can be fungal infection of skin.
It needs to be evaluated by detailed physical examination by general surgeon.
Certain basic investigations need to be done like fasting blood glucose,blood lipids,Colour doppler peripheral blood flow.
Also certain medications may predispose to this condition.
Keep the area clean and dry.
Wear shoes with adequate space for toes.
Further management depends upon the diagnosis.
