What Causes Pain And Tenderness In The Ribs?

Im concerned about my sore ribs. Normally, they felt like I was in a vice or corset; however, lately my right side is very tender.I have been diagnosed w lupus but skin biopsy results were negative for lupus. I have the common symptoms of sore/painful joints, fatigue, abdominal discomfort that is hard to describe.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Chest wall pain is common with lupus and many other connective tissue disorders, which I suspect you likely have. Lupus is not usually diagnosed with a skin biopsy, it is usually diagnosed based off of symptoms (which you have) and blood test results like ANA and anti-double-stranded DNA, so I am not clear whether you have a diagnosis or not, but autoimmune and connective tissue disorders would be high on my list for possible diagnoses. If that is the case, treatment for chest wall pain and other pain would be treated with NSAIDs like Ibuprofen, steroids, and immunosuppressents.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
