What Causes Pain And Tenderness In Jaw?

I have pain and tenderness in my jaw. I cant clench down hard, or move my jaw side to side. Im talking slower, and theres a small mass where my right bottom wisdom tooth was. They were all removed, bit this one is the only one to do this. I have had a feeling of a loose tooth or more acurately, a cracked tooth. Please awnser back soon, i am really worried about this, because my mother is prone to tumors and cancer, as well.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern.

As per your query you have symptoms of pain, tenderness in jaw along with inability to chew or move jaw properly which is mainly because of root stumps which are remnants or fractured fragments of tooth which sometimes stay behind in socket because of improper extraction. Bacteria, microorganisms and food particles keeps on accumulating in that area and start causing degradation and formation of pus in that area and that lump is hard and now converted into cyst. This cyst is putting pressure on jaw and molar region of mouth

I would suggest you not to panic about it. Visit dentist once, get IOPA done to measure how extended infection is in that area. Take combination of antibiotics such as Ibuprofen and Diclofenac to suppress infection. Go for extraction of that root stump and follow all after care instructions. Do warm saline gargles and maintain hygiene of oral cavity.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Hi..
Can understand your concern..

As per your complain a small mass in the region from where the wisdom tooth was removed can be due to inflammation in the area due to trauma caused during the extraction procedure. It is possible in case if you have extraction done only a few days or few weeks ago..

In case if you have got extraction done long back and now there is formation of lump then the reason can be any left out piece of tooth or any foreign body inclusion in the extraction socket which can be dormant initially but can become reactive and caused infection and inflammation now..

There can be sprouting of the granulation tissue in the region leading to formation of a lump..

I would suggest you to consult an oral surgeon and get evaluated and in case there is any infection or inflammation due to any foreign body or tooth piece removal of the same followed by antibiotics can help..

In case you have undergone a recent extraction then inflammation can be a natural reaction of body and will subside gradually..

Hope this information helps..
