What Causes Pain And Swelling In The Tonsils?

Hi, on Saturday I noticed my throat was hurting. I got some over the counter medicine but by Sunday j wasn't feeling any better. My tonsils were swollen severely and I was in a lot of pain. My doctor prescribed a z pack and I just finished it yesterday. I was feeling fine the past few days. However today I noticed my tonsils had started to swell again and I just looked in my throat and there are white veiny looking things all over my tonsils. What's going on?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that you are suffering from Bacterial throat infection also known as Strep throat and the symptoms of throat pain that is Pharyngitis along with inflamed tonsils that is Tonsillitis seems to be due to it..
White pustules are pus pockets that further confirms towards bacterial infection.
As the symptoms are recurring even after completion of antibiotics therefore the infection has not yet subsided and further needs treatment..

For confirmation consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like Thorat swab culture can help in diagnosis..

You can be advised:
-Antibiotics like Augmentin OR Azithromycin to resolve the infection..
-Anti-inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen can be taken to relive pain. -----Doing warm saline gargles, steam inhalation and using a humidifier in your room can be very much relieving.
-You can also suck throat lozenges to soothe the throat..
-Gargle with numbing mouthwash containing Lignocaine..
-Gargle with antiseptic solution like few drops of betadine in water..
-Chew Vitamin C pellets to boost up the immunity..
-Avoid spicy and chilled foods..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
